The Walter Haskell Harper College Notebooks consist of sixteen notebooks which were written between 1913 and 1914 by Walter Haskell Harper when he was a medical student at the Medical College of the State of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. The hand-written notebooks were kept for each subject Mr. Harper studied including: Anatomy, Dermatology, Embryology, Histology, Pathology, Physical Diagnosis, Surgery, and others. Each notebook contains lecture notes and personal notations. The notebooks reflect the curriculum and pedagogy of early 20th century medical education in South Carolina.

Walter Haskell Harper was born September 3, 1893 in Harpers, later renamed Andrews, South Carolina. He attended the University of South Carolina and later the Medical College of the State of South Carolina from which he graduated in 1916. George McFarlane Mood was born in Charleston, S.C. on March 18, 1880. After attending the College of Charleston, he graduated from the Medical College of South Carolina in 1901. He completed an internship at St. Francis Xavier Hospital, and went on to establish a private practice. Dr. Mood became a professor of bacteriology at the Medical College of South Carolina in 1904.
